Love the push button start on my fiat. Didn't appreciate it until I drove another fiat

The key still needed to unlock the steering wheel though!

Push button start!

Re: Push button start!
Looks like a nicely done job but how is this better than just turning the key?

I can just leave the steering wheel unlocked, then just pressed the button. No battery drains coz the switches cut power to the fuel pump and then the other electrics!

For this reason http://forum.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtop ... =5&t=24712 probably!Tobi wrote:Looks like a nicely done job but how is this better than just turning the key?
I used to have push button start on the TVR (stock). It was great, and had a proximity key so all I had to was jump in and hit the go button.
If I was going to do it to the spider - I'd set up the same, with a proximity based steering lock. Would be fun to do... but plenty of other things need doing first!

I know the standard ignition switch is a poor design. However, I love the old fasion Fiat key. The push button just seems out of place given the classic design.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Re: Push button start!
yeah aesthetics that was a concern.. but hey.. if it starts the car every time, allowing me to drive it everyday; that is a whole lot better than waiting for what will happen when I turn on the key, and having to drive another car while this one is in the shop.
I'm all in favor of anyone trying to do whatever to keep these beautiful cars enjoyable and driven on the road!

Re: Push button start!
I like that, especially the twin toggle switches for "pre-flight"
My attempt below, it looks a bit dramatic in the photo but is fairly inconspicuous on final instal. It is a Honda 2000 starter switch in the stock cigarette lighter hole.
It is simply connected to the start circuit of the ignition switch with a relay to handle the high current.

In the video, It was the first take so had to make sure the steering wheels were unlock and car was in neutral. I should have preset everything and just press the button. LOL
