Anyone recognize this roll bar?

Post by burgandy81 »

Hi All,

I have had this for years and am finally thinking about installing it.

Does anyone recognize it? Any comments?

I would prefer a diagonal bar running from behind the drivers head to the passenger cross frame mount but this is what I have. Are the two horizontal cross bars serving the same purpose?

Cons: It seems very heavy

Pros: Comes with backing plates to bolt through the pan

Thanks for the input!

Are you sure it is for a Spider? The Spider bar usually has rear legs that come out a bigger angle than that bar,so it can mount to the wheelwells.Hard to tell from the pics.I bought a bar that mounted to the floor pans instead of the rear bulkhead. It fit,but the seats were not adjustable.I never saw it installed until I got it home. The seller wouldn't refund my money.I just sold it for scrap metal !

If you don't have a welder... take it to someone and have them cut the rails out of the bed frame and use them to weld in an angled bar as you describe.

It looks like the standard Autopower bar for spiders with two horizontal braces that were added by someone. From the picture you are looking at the rear braces that connect to the fender well, notice the curved feet. I guess you could use the horizontal braces as a harness bar for racing belts.

Yup I think carl's right... looks like a modified autopower bar. you could cut off the added bars and grind the welds smooth if you wanted to go back to original...

I can post a picture of mine if you'd need a reference... I am powder costing mine BTW..

just a thought! :)

Thanks for all the replies.

You have me wondering if it is indeed for a Spider? I haven't installed it and cant remember where I got it!

It is now strapped up to the joists in my garage ceiling so I will try to get a couple more pictures that may help in ID.

The cross bar would be good for a harness if I ever get adventurous.
