Spider sized Subwoofer $55

Hello Spider People:

Just wanted to share an item that I am finding well worth the money ($54) rounding out my Spider Audio:

Chances are, if you have an aftermarket stereo, you probably already have one of the outputs to run this. Mine is in my trunk and with the low pass filter adds some nice umph to the low end. Keep in mind it is only $50, so have appropriate expectations, however, for a trunk located subwoofer in a convertible, my average expectations were well surpassed.

Self powered 100w, tube speaker/sub with built in crossover,
High level speaker inputs, line level RCA's and a separate mp3 input.
Gain/volume control and not shown in the listed photo, Mine came with variable LPF (Low Pass Freq) control.
typical power in, remote on and ground connections. Also a 12v dc in for out of the car use. (don't use enclosed super cheap wires)
Unit measures 8 x 9"
$55 bucks. Yes that was only 55 US Dollars and a reasonable $8 shipping.

I've never used the audio in my Spider... I just like the sound it makes by itself.

From day one there has never been a stereo in my Spider and I will keep it that way. The same counts for a wind shot behind the seat. Love the wind and the sound of the motor, it's a big part of the experience.

And from day one there has always been an aftermarket stereo in my Spider. Part of my Spider experience is cruising with the top down and my favorite tunes on the box. Our cars were MADE for Pacific Coast Highway and the Beach Boys! Sometime, come to SoCal and drive for an hour and a half on the 405 freeway to get to the Best of France and Italy car show. Crawling in traffic with trucks to the left and the right ... rice burners with hip-hop blaring at deafening levels ... lovely sounds. No way I could not have a stereo in the car. And a high powered one at that so no distortion at high volume levels. I for one thank Stevie for his post ... I'm definitely interested. I'd like to see a photo of where he put it in the trunk and how it fits if he has a Spider with a battery back there or not. I replaced my rear seat with a deck and I'm wondering if I could stuff the thing in there, or maybe in my rear speaker enclosure.
I'm glad y'all are enamored with the sound of your motors. I like mine too when I can hear it over the noise pollution of LA. But I love my tunes and also my "wind shot" that deadens the wind noise so I can hear not only the radio but my passenger (not to mention blocking the cold air on my neck driving top down in Jan. and Feb. while keeping the heat up front).
And you know what? You don't have to turn the stereo on....

With a stereo in a convertible you are the noise pollution

I removed the original map pockets from the front and fabricated some ply boxes to screw into their place. In the boxes I installed some 4" Boston Acoustic mids and topped them with matching Boston A tweeters, They're powered through a sweet little Concord amp. For the rear I made a removable sub woofer box fitted with twin 8" JBL's, I covered the box with light tan vinyl to match the rest of the interior. The JBL's are fed through a 200w nominal Kenwood Amp. I use to have an Alpine tuner (Nice ) but I've since fitted up a Sony Xplod (Nicer ).

Nothing I love more than to hear that angry twin cam do it's thing but sometimes I just want to cruise the open road have the option to turn up the tunes and go into my own little world.

Everything that has been fitted can be removed without ever knowing it was there.

Just because I'm your average middle aged Joe it doesn't mean I have to stop boppin" ......Rock on Stevie..

Previous owner included a huge subwoofer that looked like a canister vacuum cleaner sitting in the back seat, and was the most professional and sophisticated wiring in the whole car. I hated the sound, but I am convinced the bass pulsed through the car and kept it rust free. I gave the subwoofer away. Now my stereo sounds like shit - like an AM radio despite installing a high end speaker in the center console (in addition to two speakers in the map pockets). I need an amp I think.

Some days I like the purr of my car without tunes. Some days I want to sing along to great music. One is not better than the other so let's not snipe (although maybe some of you critical of music just aren't listening to the right stuff? Will send you my alt country playlist if that will help).
