With some dark trim....Smores...
I prefer the lights outboard. As Matt mentioned they should be easily seen when they are activated.
The turn signals that use a colored bulb with a clear lens are just about useless on a sunny day for what it's worth.

If you're still looking for a solution, I just got hooked up with a new supplier that carries the H4 headlamps with a nine-led amber turn signal at the bottom. I'll be getting some later this week and I'll post some pics
Mark, I've moved on to other stuff and have postponed the turn signals. I am not happy with the current location, so am interested and looking at those lights. My questions are: are the faces glass or plastic. how do you install the flasher when the rest of the system is old school.
If i had a late model Spider without bumpers, I would personally go with Mark's kit. It seems to be the best option if you are going without bumpers of any kind. http://www.allisonsautomotive.com/products.html
If you want the option of using the bumper holes sometime in the future then I would go with something like these.
I am sure you could make the light function as a marker and a signal with some creative wiring. Someone posted somewhere on how to do this for the side markers, same concept here.
Its a shame you cant place a row of LED's along that slanted part of the spoiler pushed way back so you only see them when they are on. Kind of like the row they now use for running lights on various model cars. Thyey are bright, low profile, and will probably stay on with 3M 2 sided tape. But Im a strange dude, and if your going for an old school rally look that isnt it. The only other suggestion I have would be to maybe leave them in tight and go with an amber bubl and clear lens? Outbpard reminds me of those little black taxis in London. But as I stated, I aint right! LOL, either way you should be really proud, its looking great!
Personal opinion: Don't worry so much about the old school aspect of the lights, and go with either the signals in the H4 lamps, or use the motorcycle type LED mini-flashers. In either case, I think having the side marker lights flash as well would give them a better reason to be there.
And by the way, did I say nice "nice work!" ?
these lights provide both the turn signal and park light in the same housing.
I love how the shape flows with the grill opening shape.
I also like the clear lense
The lights are from a 1997 mercury sable and have been inverted and flipped left to right side.
