Dash is done

Post by juvius »

I felt a little better today so I decided to take on an easy project. I have never been a fan of wood trim and since I took the old dash out to make putting the windshield in a little easier, I decided it was time to get the good dash ready to go back in. It looks a bit grey in the picture, but in life it looks like shiny brushed aluminum. I had to do a little cutting of the new dash so the temp gauge and clock would fit and i had to drill the rivets out of the center metal bracket and rivet the bracket out of the old dash into the new one so the configuration of the "remove key", "brake", "flasher" and the two switches would fit.

Although the wood detail in the car is one of the things I like about the Spiders, your dash looks really nice.

I like polished better myself but I was thinking if I got it too shiny I'd get blinded when the sun was behind me

I made mine out of a road sign. I did sand it for a brushed finish, I think the flash made it look shinier than it is. I thought machine turned would be neat, but too labor intensive. That car has been in storage since we moved 3 years ago, but I'm losing my free storage facility so it will be coming home soon.

Won't the sun reflect on it?
I don't like it, wood dash makes the car look way better

So you laminate the wood with the metal Steve? I guess that makes sense. But what happens if you want to go back? :)
