Re: Yellow or red turn signals poll
I have always felt that the amber/orange turn signals are much safer than the red, as they are more visible due to the color contrast. Whenever I am behind a modern car with all red, the turn signals seem to get lost in the traffic, whereas the amber/orange stand out. I have always frankly been somewhat surprised that this color contrast has not been mandated by the Federal HTSA/DOT or whatever governing body is involved with this sort of thing. And I like the looks of them better than all red too.

I totally agree. Even when cars have separate lights for turn signals, when they are red they are much harder to notice than amber ones. Also, when a red signal comes on a car next to you has to see them flash a few times before it is obvious that it is a turn signal and not a brake light.
If the DOT cared about safety than all turn signals would have to be amber and they would have to be the outermost light.

Re: Yellow or red turn signals poll
In the interest of safety I did wire the side markers to blink with the turn signals. If you want to do this in the back I finished and its simple. Remove the ground wire, mine was purple, that connects to the stud on the tail light on both sides and hook them to the hot blinker wire. I connected mine on the body end of the tail light plug so if I want to unplug the tail light and remove I still can. Still works as both side marker and turn now.

Re: Yellow or red turn signals poll
did the amber lens in the OP come from a motorcyle? Does it fit or is it just placed there for the photo? Are amber lenses available for the 71 tail lights? I like that look and agree it would be safer.

You can but the Amber lens and replace the red ones. Some vendors have them listed and European design? I just like the one color look.

The 1971-72-only taillights only came with red lenses. IIRC tge turn signal is the second from the edge, the outermost being the brake light.
When I repainted my car I made the taillight holes 1/2" narrower so I can use the 1973-78 taillights with the amber lenses.

Re: Yellow or red turn signals poll
I didn't know the 71-72 had different size lights. But then you never know I have a 73 that is a BS car that should have been a 72.
