color #1 is on

Post by azruss »

Went by the paint shop to mask the separation line for the black. they laid the blue with a clear coat and sanded the blue. First time to check out the body work from a distance. came out about like i expected. The blue paint is not perfect but looks very good. The areas that weren't sanded, the paint just jumped. 8) Another week and they will paint the black and clear the entire car. The painter is hanging the hood and trunk lid so he can paint both sides. If it were me, i wouldnt do it that way. much easier to get a flat paint on a horizontal surface.

Nice! It's my dream to someday be able to do 1/10 of what you've done to your car to mine.

Really like that shade of blue Russ.
Is a week enough time for the paint to cure before doing the black? Not questioning the time because honestly I don't have a clue.
Oh and good to see the left rear is still holding air :D

they shot the blue friday afternoon and sanded it this morning. The paint is 2 part urethane, so should be dry enough to not react to fresh paint over the top. Not sure when they will mask and paint. that should take the greater part of a day. They have a lot of trucks in the shop right now, so i may be a couple back in the line. The clear goes on right after the black, so that should all be done at once. I've had some painters tell me they color sand and buff when the paint is fresh because if they wait, then paint gets too hard to effectively polish out.

my weekend is now ruined!! just got a call from the painter. said he just stepped into the booth as the shooter just finished and opened it up. Told me he wanted to apologize because the paint came out so clean, i will never be able to sell the car. Unfortunately, i cant get over this afternoon to check it out before he closes. Now, i will spend the weekend like a little kid on Christmas eve.

Here are spy photos of the black and clear straight out of the booth and sat over the weekend. clear on the blue is very nice. the drivers side black is pretty orange-peely and will require color sand. the hood, trunk lid and doors were under wrap for protection, so wont see them until after cut and buff. paint line came out very clean. I will need to live with the color combo awhile to see if i really like it.

Tough to judge the overall appeal when it's still in pieces and covered in paper and tape.
I think once you get everything back on, it will come together just fine. Those stainless bumpers and
Rotas will set it off.

From what I can see the bodywork looks really nice. I agree...once it is re-assembled it will look great!
