Re: Hand made Custom Gear Stick Knob
Black widows ,females , have a hourglass shaped red colouring on their underside. males are small and lack the hourglass.
That looks like a Red Back spider. As you mentioned is in the widow family and is has a venomous bite. No shortage of critters that want to eat you/ bite you down there and bugger you up.
I think Spider Jim did something similar but with a Black Widow. Hollowed out the top of the shift knob and covered the dead spider with clear epoxy or something.

Creepy, I'm getting the chills just looking at it. I wouldn't be able to touch it to shift, and I'm not normally afraid of spiders

How do they feel PiniF. I was looking at getting one a few months back and then read on that they're about 6cm in diameter. Because I've grown up with the feel of the standard Fiat knob (which I adore) I was fearing that I'd hate the feel of a larger gear knob. What's the difference in feel like?

Re: Hand made Custom Gear Stick Knob
speaking of bigger knobs, I tried a 2" wooden knob on my car but it was too big espesially compared to the original black fiat knob which is a real comfortable drive, when you headin up Fi8t??Fi8spider wrote:How do they feel PiniF. Re: Hand made Custom Gear Stick Knob
I had made my own. Had some dried lengths of paramidalis cedar, shaped on a band saw and finished with a wood rasp and sand paper. Dipped into flecto verethane and sand between the 5-10 coats.
Drilled a hole in the bottom and used the insert from a clapped out original shift knob so it screwed onto the shifter without an issue.
Like the idea of a spider in the top though. We do have Black Widows here....
Made another for next project
