Just bought a 78 spider 1800. Seems to be a pretty solid foundation. Some rust, but nothing that can't be cleaned up...I hope. Over Christmas I'll be pulling the engine and tranny (1st,2nd,3rd are really noisy) and doing a complete rebuild, plus a few performance upgrades. In the process of working over the drive train I'll be stripping and renovating the interior. The seats have been re-upholstered (which I'm going to upgrade, so they'll be for sale in coming months), and the top is only a couple years old. It has been driven frequently and taken pretty decent care of in it's current state, but I'm planning a top to bottom rebuild so I know exactly the condition of every inch.
I haven't had time or occasion to restore an old car in the last 20 years. Having owned a '68 mustange, '81 mgb, and assisted a friend with a '53 Ford pickup, I'm so completely stoked to get into this car and feel her running strong again! I'm really glad I did my research and landed on the Fiat Spider, this is going to be awesome fun!
I've already learned a wealth of information from reading this site...you guys are awesome. Nice to know there is a solid following, and that I'm not going to be in this alone.
