custon center console design

Post by backyardbill »

Has anyone come across a replacement for the long center console in teh 1979-1885 spider? Something that looks more modern looking than the original. Mine is a crumbling and I wanted to delete it all together, but that leaves the problem of what to do with the heat/air cables.

Any custom ideas?

Here is mine while I was installing it.
I haven't taken a finished photo

I have it almost finished now. I removed the coin holder and ash tray. In place of the ash tray is the cruise control. Removing the coin holder shortened back of the console. This me install an arm rest from a VW that is over the emergency brake handle. I don't have photo of the arm rest installed but can take one if anyone is interested.
I moved the center panel lights and controls into the radio console so the upper dash would have a cleaner appearance.
What was the Fiat wood is now real carbon fiber.

That carbon fiber treatment looks nice.

So far, I haven't found anyone offering a "custom" replacement for the original design console.

Did anyone remove all the padding and plastic for the original? and reupholstered it from scratch? Is the basic structure all steel?

I would eliminate the console all together if I could find a way to move the heater control cables to a lever assembly under the dash where the radio console existed.

something like this:

Totally over the top awesome Spider, Brady!! That's the way Pinninfarina would have wanted it. :D

I think I can fab up that console using thin sheet steel from home depot.
