Looks like a relay of some sort. I don't think its original equipment. Red goes to starter.
What's this?

looks cobbled. pretty sure it's not factory.
perhaps it's a relay to brighten your headlights?... my "relay" is tucked up alongside the drivers side under the brake fluid resevoir

Re: What's this?
inquiring minds want to know where the black wire goes.
headlight relays, properly installed requires 4-5 wires per relay. looks to me like this is an incomplete circuit if it is indeed a relay.

Re: What's this?
If you look closely, it looks like a lock graphic just below the white wire insert. It might be a remote to disable the car.
Re: What's this?
Are the green and gray wires attached to it? What does it say on the back of the device?
I guess I was totally wrong...Damn early year spiders!

Just be very careful, of all the attacking wires, green and gray are by far the most vicious! Sorry Pope, I couldn't resist. Lord, please bless the starving pygmies down in New Guinea.Do the green and gray wires attack to it? What does it say on the back of the device?

That's exactly what I thought it was, Mark. I scrounged up a pic of mine to see. It looks like it's upside down from how mine is mounted...not to say his is wrong...it could be mine is. But mine has the big orange wire going from the regulator to the fuse block. So Cal Mark wrote:looks like an early voltage regulator to me

That's it; orange and grey. Makes sense that its a voltage regulator, as I've got the early Marelli alternator. I didn't expect it to be on the opposite side of the engine compartment as the alternator. Thanks, guys.

Yes, that's a replacement VR. A solid state one, you can't find the old type any longer. It is upside down.baltobernie wrote:That's it; orange and grey. Mounted on the driver's side because nearly all of the electrics on the cars are on the driver's side. Gets too hot on the other side.

It's in there. I downsized.pope wrote:Hey...wheres the engine?
Actually, this was during the 3 days I sat on the crossmember with a toothbrush and cleaner trying to determine what color the engine bay was supposed to be.

Re: What's this?
Ooooooooooooooo....I thought you went to the green side and installed electric motors on the wheels and now have room to install luggage like I showed on that Autorama car called Ferrambo!
