Antenna ariel bank off plate?

Post by Raze »

Anyone ever seen of or heard of a blank off plate or rubber plug or something that could be used to blank the antenna? I've removed my radio and don't intend to reinstall and would like to remove the antenna but not leave a big hole. Any ideas?

I've never seen anything the wouldnt look like you did it just to plug the hole. most hardware stores have a variety on clip style chrome plugs for covering holes in sinks. they wont weather seal unless you caulk them into place. If it were me, i would find an antenna that retracts to near nothing and cut the wire off.

I welded mine closed, before painting of course.

There is no actual blank off plate because all radios were dealer installed.

Ifit's a round hole you could use a rubber or chrome plug from the hardware store.

This might not be the ideal solution but a NMO (new Motorola) antenna base rain cap might work. When I am not using my ham radio antenna I take it off and put the rain cap on.

As mentioned earlier in this thread the more elegant solution would be to get a radio antenna that collapses fully (flush). Most auto part stores carry this type of antenna.

Or you can go with a rubber plug.

if you were to put a cheap retracting antenna in the hole that may look the best, so far some of the other ideals
seem out of place where the Ant would be a more natural fit.
