Going without consoles
Re: Going without consoles
Looks good. Do you plan to install a shift boot? And what about the radio? Will you mount it to the bottom of the dash somehow?
Re: Going without consoles
Radio?
Yes, I'll put boots on the shifter and the handbrake.. And some black rubber floormats.
A cheap makeover.

I like. I like it alot.
How did you get the carpet to fit the contours without cutting it all up?

Re: Going without consoles
I was able to use the old carpet as a template, and the stuff I used is so thin it was easy to get it to lay properly.maytag wrote:I like. I like it alot.

Re: Going without consoles
Is it possible to do something similar while keeping the heater controls?

Re: Going without consoles
happy beachgoerm, Ive installed several bars while keeping a back seat. You just mount the bar and measure where it is going to go thru the seat.. Then you peel the vinyl up at the corners and cut a nice tight clean hole thru the foam. Then you cut a slit in the foam so the seat can spread around the bar. Lastly, have the vinyl cut and resewn.

Excellent! That looks really good. Where did you get those seats?? They look like they would have a lot more lateral support than stock ones.maytag wrote: well, since somebody revived this thread, I thought I'd post how mine turned-out.

of course, that can be painful, when your butt's as big as mine....
I got the seats from a feller in the UK who was having them made for MG's & Triumphs.
I tried to sell them on this forum this spring, with no takers at $400/pr OBO. (included slider hardware)

Re: Going without consoles
Very nice. is that "the famous" car?
the one thing I don't like, which I spent way too much time trying to avoid on mine, is the way the trans-tunnel "dips" in front, as it goes under the dash. I think that looks "unplanned", so I removed that dip on mine.
But the level of finish of that car is significantly greater than anything I'd have the patience or skills for.

The pictures do not do it justice. Once you sit in it everything you find fault in the pictures just disappears. The console appears smaller in person.
