Anyone remove roof and make a roadster?

Post by jimmycakes401 »

I was just watching Top Gear UK and James May removed the roof of a convertible and turned it into a sail boat. When he removed the roof he trimmed it all out in teak and it looked pretty cool. I was just wondering if anyone has totally removed their roof and drives it in fair weather. I'd like to see pics of that if it exists.

Well, actually what defines a roadster is side curtains in lieu of roll-up windows. :)

Oh. Anyway. I think you get the gist from my explanation. I can't change my subject.

I have seen a picture of one spider with the top removed and a custom peice made to covor the rear seat area. it would look good done correct. maybe double bubble with a double hump roll bar. ? or maybe mid engine ferrari motor transplant or a chevy with blower sticking up lol

I have been thinking about it, not the teak of course but removing the top and the side windows, including the triangle.
There have been photos of a couple of cars on the forum.
I thought a roadster is a soft top car that is designed that way and not converted like a convertible.

Tough to see, but you can make out a nicely crafted wood edge where the roof used to be.

Ha ha. That is fantastic. Not much going on there for trim though. :D

Just weighing out my options. It will be a long time before I can afford a new top and I don't think the one that I have would really hold any water out. But I suppose if I got caught in a sprinkle it would buy me some time to get home.

I figured I could clean it up, paint it and sand any rusty spots while I ponder. Or media blast it in pieces. Who knows. So much to do.

It's a moot point of course, and I dont mean to hijack the thread, but the original designation (back in their introduction in the late twenties), a roadster was a 2 seat convertible with side curtains vs a cabriolet which was a 2 seat convertible with roll up windows.

The names of car body styles came from their horse drawn counterparts form a long time past, then they added new ones for the auto industry.
I did convert my car to as close of a roadster as I could.
