Re: Fog Lights Alternative
Working on a friend's Jeep, I came across these 3.5" fog lights... cover can be removed. Remote controlled. Not bad for 125.00

Re: Fog Lights Alternative
I'm looking for fog-light solutions right now, so I gravitated to this thread.wachuko wrote:A few more photos that I have found as I look for fog lights alternatives:
Wachuko (or anyone else): do you by chance know where I could see this car from the front? I'm kinda leaning this way, but I'd like to see it from some other angles.

Re: Fog Lights Alternative
I know this isn't what your looking for but here are my CIBIE lights I mounted on my Spider. I made the brackets out of angle iron which overlap the bumper bracket bolts. Requires some notching of the plastic covers. The SS wire loom was intended for hot rods such as the headlamps on a 32 Ford.
I have bracket sets available for $20+ shipping if anybody is interested.

His "plate bracket" is actually a readily found item at any electrical supply house, and probably home depot or Lowes. It is called a "pipe hanger", but is most often referred to as a minerelac strap.coise wrote:Well, in fact I´m interessted in your licence plate bracket. Do you have thoses too? Would you sell some?

Re: Fog Lights Alternative
Some mock-ups I did a while back.
The oval's the Hella FF100, available cheap as they're disco'd, the round are the PIAA 510.
I'm going for the 510 but i can't decide Fog or Driving or one of each...

That Euro number plate caused me major havoc after installing A/C. Well the condensor aggrevated the problem because it blocks air flow anyway.
Apparantly the number plate acts as an air dam and forces air away from the radiator at high speeds and caused overheating. Once I removed the plate the engine runs a cool 190F all the time now.
By the way, how are you guys running state issued front licence plates in the center without your engines overheating?

Re: Fog Lights Alternative
Here is a picture of my two with Massachusetts mandated front plates. I've never had a problem with overheating on either one (knock on wood - as I've doomed myself now). I've seen a lot of Spiders with similar mounting in my area, so I suspect the plate mounting is not a problem.
Two things I notice about your setup that are different are that your plate was much wider, and you have two fog lights partially obstructing the grill opening. I suspect the combination creates a bad airflow pattern. You solved it by removing the plate, but an interesting experiment would have been to see if removing the lights solved it equally well.

Sorry for the hijack, but the name Colt was used by Mitsubishi for a lot of their cars world wide. These lights were never on any car that was imported to the US, so unless you have a buddy in Europe willing to search a bone yard......DoctorPDR wrote:And I talked to a guy in Germany that uses this blinker and fits extremely well. It is from an 82 Mitsubishi Colt, Stanley Part #: 046-8301L and I would assume the right blinker would be the same number with an R after it.
Anyway, does anyone have a junk yard with Dodge, Chrsler, and Mitsubishi Cars? Anyone want to check it out? There are none in my area.

Yes there was, I owned one in the early 80's, but none of them came with these lights.spiderrey wrote:As I recall, there was a colt in the u s.

Re: Fog Lights Alternative
I've had those lights on the car since 1995 and they have never given me any problem as far as running hot on the interstate is concerned. They are not directly in front of the radiator anyway.aj81spider wrote:Here is a picture of my two with Massachusetts mandated front plates. I like having a Euro plate on the front though. One thought was instead of using the long rectangular style, use a square style and angle it down slightly so air is directed toward the spoiler.
Instead forcing air up and down away from the radiator. I'm guessing what was happening was simliar to my 1994 Jeep Wrangler. The soft top flapped like crazy on the interstate but if I drove about 20 feet behind a tractor trailer, the Jeep would get caught into some sort of vacuum and the top would stop flapping. It didn't take long before the tractor trailer in front of me would slow down to 50 mph so I would have to pass him. I suppose my Jeep was causing wind drag on this trailer and he didn't like it!

I know it's been a while, but do you remember what part number/name of the lights? Is t a kit? How are they holding up?wachuko wrote:Got these for 39.95 at the local PepBoys (Autozone also had them for the same price). I will use a back plate on the grill for now to avoid drilling anything at this time. For the photo they are just held in place with nylon tie wraps

WOW , I Love that look... will be down to my local chop shop to see what they can dojames124 wrote:Hey Jaime maybe this photo will inspire you even more. Looks a lot like your car. All I know is this car is in Germany. Thanks for all your posts.
Been thinking of different ways of getting more cold air into my IDFS and that would solve the problem
Also been thinking of side air vents like the one that got away
