gritracing, i noticed you have a heatshield around your air filter. I assume that is to keep hot air from the exhaust away. is it effective. Have you run your car both ways to see if there is a performance difference. I'm thinking of doing the same and would like to know if it is worth the effort.

Russ, he doesn't have to test it, it's been proven on many other cars that even a freeflow filter won't help make up for the loss of breathing hot engine bay air. The difference is measurable on the dyno.
The only complication on a Spider 2000 is that you have to cut holes either next to the radiator or in the inner fender to get outside air.

very noice kmac33, I have always wondered about the air pump in the exhaust??
Wouldn't putting more air in the exhaust be the same as measuring the co2 a distance from the exhaut pipe?

Nice Pics!. The idea of injecting air into the exhaust just outside of the combustion chamber is to allow the still very hot and unburnt gasses to finish burning with the addition of oxygen, @ the end of the tailpipe the unburnt fuel is unable to combust due to the now cool temperature from the heat loss through the exhaust pipe.

Will post pics of the coupe's engine bay with its new cold air box for the 44 IDFs soon, as the box is about a week away from being completed. This new box is made from composite materials to absorb sound, be light weight, take advantage of all the limited space available under the hood, provide 100% cold air to the carbs, and flow well enough to feed those 44mm bores on the IDFs. Will also be doing some dyno runs with the new air box in the next few weeks.
