32/36 DFEV Fuel Return?

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

What's this about the 32/36 DFEV not having a fuel return fitting?

...How the hell does that work?

Both the Weber and the EMPI?

Thanks,
Mark

When using one of those carburetors, the fuel return line gets capped off at the metal line. In theory, having a fuel return will keep the fuel supply at the carb cooler preventing vapor lock. I've put a few thousand miles without it and haven't had any issues. Nor have I heard of anyone on this forum having vapor lock. Just connect the supply, cap the return, and go :)

vapor lock normally occurs at the fuel pump so cars that have a factory fix have a return line at the pump. This keeps fuel circulating through the pump, thus cooling it. If you're determined to use the return line, you can get a Chrysler filter with a return fitting built into it

Mark, do you have a part number on the chrysler filter with return fitting. My electric pump constantly runs, and I would like to keep it cool. I have been considering installing a fuel regulator with a return line, but if that isn't necessary that would be great. Thanks

So what happens when pressure builds against the float valve? Is there a bypass in the mechanical pump or does that need to be replaced with electrics?

Thanks,
Mark

I'll have to research the filter number and you can keep the mechanical pump, no need to switch to electric

Thanks a bunch, Mark.

Are these marked on the can? In your photo, is 6 o'clock in, 12 out, and 3 return?

that orientation is correct. I'm not sure if all mfgs mark the return line but in n out should be indicated

"by the looks"
the top is the out
the side is the return
and the the bottom would be the in
