Has anyone done this color change from tan to black. Looking at changing the seat colors, if some one did this what type of paint was used and how long did it last and look like.
Thanks
Nick

I've never used this, but I looked into it - have a look, see what you think:

SEM is probably the stuff to use, it's popular on the Alfa boards for high-wear areas like seats. I used it to change the color of my center console from black to tan and it appears to be holding up well. I think the color I used was satin black. Be sure to buy the prep solvents as well and be thorough in cleaning the seats before starting. I used simple green to remove the initial grime and dirt, then rinsed with water. Then used the SEM prep solvent and finally sprayed the color in five thin coats, waiting 20 minutes between each coat. As with any paint job, the time you spend prepping will pay dividends in the end result.

Any quality auto paint store should be able to hook you up. Most Vinyl interior parts come in a neutral color and are died or painted to the desired color. An old friend of mine was into early Corvette restoration and he did it all of the time. The key is to get the Vinyl perfectly clean and free of silicone. If i'm not mistaken they have a cleaner for that as well.

I agree on the SEM product. I used it on the vinyl door panels. You can scratch it down to the original color, but it is easy to touch up.
Make sure you get their prep cleaner. It actully etches the vinyl slighly. I would apply it an wash it down twice.
Good luck,
Greg

Re: painting tan to black seats
I've tried painting vinyl and cloth seats with SEM and Duplicolor and have never seen it hold it. It always rubs off or looses it's gloss after awhile. I have tried cleaning it with Purple Magic before hand. But have never prepped it with anything else.nibbes123 wrote:Has anyone done this color change from tan to black. If someone knows of something that will hold up, I'd like to know about it.
