How much is *your* Spider worth?

Just a little note, from experience if a shop is completely restoring a Spider than the budget would have to be closer to $30K than 16K. The hours add up fast...

A local Alfa romeo restorer prices start at $50,000 for full restorations of the late 50's through late 60's Alfas. He is also always busy.


Restoration costs have gotten very high, especially on Euro cars as we are dealing with the weak dollar exchange for parts. Plus labor in major cities is often over $100 hour now. A 100 hours gets eaten up in a hurry on a real restoration!


Problem with 124 values is most people can't tell the difference between a true restored car and a worn out one that needs a ton of work, but has shiny paint and new seat covers.

That plus people associate FIAT with "Fix It Again Tony" not "Fun, Italian, And Topless".

values of 124 Spiders in the USA have lagged behind the rest of the world for many years now, where in Europe, Asia, and Australia the cars are more sought after and owners are not afraid to spend real money on them. Its a vicious cycle here in the US. the value hasn't been there, so often the owners don't want to spend the $ to make the cars right, so you have a lot of so so cars that keeps the prices down (and keeps the fix it again Tony myth going) and so on and so on. Fiat owners in the USA have traditionally been tight wads as well--to some point myself included!
