Re: carburetor question
yes a bigger carb will make a dif
one of marks empi carbs will do nicely
the 79 had the 28/32 adha carb "restrickded"
look for a 34/36
also youll want a 1800 manifold,as the 79 is made with smaller intake holesfor the carb.joe

I second the vote on the EMPI. Incredible difference and pretty much plug and play. Do it!124JOE wrote:yes a bigger carb will make a dif

Re: carburetor question
Why? Get a genuine Weber carb, its cheaper too (free ground shipping) 32/36 DFEV: http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/Weber_C ... rs_s/2.htm
Re: carburetor question
Can I just replace the carb? Do you know where i can get an 1800 Exhaust?
Re: carburetor question
Since I have a automatic choke how would I setup the electronic choke? What do I do with the water lines and all the vacuum lines? Does anyone have a picture of this area so i can get a better idea of what has worked for you?

Re: carburetor question
you just need a key on only 12V power source for the electric choke. you can join the water lines to each other, or track down where they originate and plug them. (the better way to do it)

Re: carburetor question
Best pics of the carb I could find right now. I have a 36/36 on my 74 and am VERY happy with it.

Re: carburetor question
Your paperweight of a carb you have now has a shutoff solenoid on it. The power for that should be just the thing. I don't know if the replacement carb will have a solenoid or not but if it does you should be able to splice into it.

BUT! I would NOT recommend it for a stock 2000 intake manifold. No point in putting a large carb on a very restrictive manifold. The 32/36 would work better, but that manifold is too restrictive for any carb.
With either carb I would strongly recommend converting to a 1800 intake manifold. Thant and one of these carbs will give you about 15 hp! That is enormous considering the car only had 86 to begin with! It will feel like a day and night difference.

check the parts for sale section here. people are always parting out the older cars. 1800 manifolds are not rare
