in my 69 there is a switch that u use to shut off the power, ( i think ) it in the mapholder on the passenger side. was that stock

Going back to the original question about the locking system........
Anyone ever messed around with locking actuators and key-less entry?

I live in LA and if you don't have keyless entry remote, you are in a different class system of people...

On my coupe I would rather lock my doors just because... the harder it is to get into the car and mess around the better... plus there is so many people out here, there is pretty much always going to be a witness.

Although I am sure I would have a fun time trying to find replacement side windows if someone smashed them, I just like the idea of knowing that my doors are locked and if I have the remote in my hand, my keys won't be inside see?

Also since I bought the car, I have been obsessed with the idea of a remote operated trunk popper since there was never a lock mechanism on my trunk...

Back in 71 I installed a solenoid on my trunk latch to open it. I wired it to a button on the dash so you had to be in the car to open the trunk but it was still cool in 71.

I recently upgraded my stereo system to include these sweet Italian made speakers a new head unit and a couple of amps one of which is a tube-amp which produces oh so sweet music, anyways I also had a viper 2-way alarm system put in to keep an eye on things, included in the alarm install they put in actuators for keyless entry and solenoid for trunk, the alarm also sends texts to my iPhone (and is actually controlled thru my iphone if need be) if anyone is messing with the car. I am having some intermittent problems with the driverside locking mechanism that will need some looking into. Turning a key entry car into a keyless entry one is something most stereo shops do all the time. Good luck.

I installed a keyless entry system on my '92 Alfa Spider without any problems a few years back. It is probably similar to the Fiat Spider.

Stereo installers sell the electronics, actuators and relays and the instructions that come with the electronics tells you how to connect everything up. I placed the electronics under the rear parcel shelf.

If you do it, please post some pictures. If I do it first, I will post some pictures...

WOW!
In 71 your car must have been on the cutting edge of technology... probably equal to these cars today that drive themselves...no I am not talking about toyotas haha..

See the doors are not such a big deal for me, however the trunk is a huge deal for because since the day I bought my car, there was no lock in the trunk. Only a little latch that I could pop with a flat-head screw driver. I will post pictures of what I am crying about later... Meanwhile I went to the junk yard and looked at every car with a solenoid in the trunk which includes every caillac and some ford, lincoln and mercury... even got lucky and found one on a junked Alfa Romeo 164.. probably the best out of the bunch. I got a few solenoids to work with but nothing that I can use my original setup with..... we will see..
I think the coupe.. especially my 124 CC coupe is a special case since the trunk is so different... If anyone knows exactly what I am talking about here, help a brotha out! Either way I will post detailed pics just so people get the picture.

Has anyone thought of using a pedal lock system? Light airplanes have control surface locks that you put on when the plane isn't being used. They're mainly to keep the wind from blowing the ailerons, elevator, and rudder around and damaging the plane. I wonder if a long U shaped lock that you could put across the clutch and brake at the very least would work as a deterrent for someone stealing the entire car.

I've seen a really cool steering wheel to brake pedal locking device not sure the name of it this was the best
by far . I still believe alarms are worth having, I live in Los Angeles and have an alarm on my cars none have
been broken into or stolen .

I just read through this all the posts and liked all the input as I haven't been in a convertible for many many years and will soon start on my 73 Spider. It is all very interesting but the thing that jumps out at me the most is a removable steering wheel. It just seems perfect to pull the steering wheel off stick it in the trunk and be on your way.

As for stereo equipment it seems like with USB and Bluetooth you could put most of the expensive stuff in the trunk while only keeping a reasonable display thing in the dash area. I have also seen people install things in the glove box. I don't have any idea what someone could come up with for a locking glove box as my car currently doesn't have a glove box door on it. I am looking forward to replacing all the wood myself.

I never lock my car. I leave the top down unless I am under a tree. I don't leave anything in my glove box and I never lock it either. I don't want it pried open. I do have an alarm and I set it when I leave the car. My radio face plate is usually in the trunk, but I rarely use it anyway. If the alarm deters a theif, great, if not, that is what the insurance is for. I would hate for it to be stolen but there is always that risk. We are still fortunate that these cars aren't worth much yet. They still have that tainted reputation.
