1981 Fiat Spider 2000 - Roll Bar??

Post by jimmycakes401 »

Sorry if this is a double post. I'm brand new and I did use the search function to find the answer. No luck.

Haven't even started work on restoration project. But I want to get a roll bar at some point and the two sites I found said "NO 1981 FOR YOU!!" which I was surprised about.

So, you 1981 guys with roll bars... obviously you got them somewhere. Did you have to do some kind of mode, or did it bolt right in?

Wonder why the disclaimer on the other site was "not for 1981"

Also, why aren't the part numbers for this one on the prices page?

It's the 61000 series street bar on their price list. I have one on my '82 & like it. Used ones can be a good deal, the only way to ship is Greyhound bus, its $65. Or less. Matthews foreign in Alabama had them for a good price a while back.

My 1981 had a roll bar when I bought it. I like the look better without a roll bar so I took it out. I suspect the previous owner got it at the place that told you "not for 1981" as the two legs that butt up against the rear wheel well did not fit right. I found out that he put spacers in when I took it out. In the fine tradition of his quality work (my introductory post shows the nice bungee cord holding the air filter on!) the spacers were 1" nuts that he ran the mounting bolts (not hardened!) through the middle of. If you are only putting it in for cosmetic reasons then some sort of spacer will work. If you actually want it to protect you if you roll over then you need a different roll bar or more serious mounting modifications.

Thanks for the tips. Wow. $535 huh? Whew!

I would imagine I'd want it for protection. Although I do like the way it looks cosmetically.

Wow, for $535 you can buy the bent steel, buy a welder, install rollbar and still have $35 for some beer or MJ

I don't see one listed in their Ebay store right now, but you might check with these guys:

They have been good to deal with and have lots of parts.
