Digital gauges

Has anyone tried to convert to a digital gauge setup on the 124? I have looked at Dakota Digital's site, they have an impressive looking 3 gauge setup with a grey face. They also have the standard round black gauge displays with just digital numbers......boring.

Any information about other manufactures would be appreciated, or if someone has had positive or more importantly, negative results from converting the dash.

I think digital would look out of place...any style... again just my opinion...here's what i am using....

I agree with you that digital number gauges would look out of place, I was thinking along the line of Modern electronic gauge sets. For example a 4 gauge set that would work with an Isis electronics wiring system. The Dakota electronic VHX system only has a 3 gauge setup, I would like to keep the 2 large gauges and 2 smaller aux gauges. I have been trying to keep the style of the car correct........mostly, however I want to upgrade the functionality. I am in the process of installing custom 7 inch round headlights, LOCAR oval led tail lights, and Hagan led front and rear side lights.

I like what you did with your dash, really gives it a race car look. You obviously have allot more skills than I do, this is my first attempt at a full restoration and customization of a car.

A short note to anyone wanting to change Fiat Spider gauges, the speedometers made for American aftermarket gauge sets turn at 1000 RPM (revolutions per mile) Fiat speedometer drive output is just over 1600 RPM, or 1000 RPK.
The electronic speedometers will be no problem getting the speedometer to read properly but you may have a problem hooking up the pulse generator to the transmission. I would check this out before buying the gauges.
If you use a mechanical speedometer you will need a ratio adapter that you can buy on eBay, its stated in the sale that it will change kilometers to miles per hour, but the ratio adapter will not attach to the speedometer drive without some changes. if you are handy you can figure it out.

A ratio adapter is a necessity with some gauges... I think Autometer makes both drive ratios. I had to buy a drive ratio adapter for my car because of the gear ratio in the rear end and by swapping Speedo gears in the transmission I could get close but not close enough to be accurate. I should point out that my engine is a Chevy 4.3L v6 and my transmission is a Borg Warner T5 and the rearend is out of an Rx 7 GSL.

Does anyone know if there are after market Vehicle Speed Sensors, or if it would even be worth converting the car over to this type of system.

The automatic has the same drive ratio as the manual as far as I know...

there was a problem i had for years
the guy at the tire shop sold me large tires
so my speedo was off .

i found my garmin helps tell me how far off she gets.
while at a recent car show i seen car with no gauges just a garmin
