Painting Dash

Post by redek »

I'm considering painting my cracked veneer dash with a wrinkle black finish. But I want to get some input before hand.
Thanks,
Derek

not sure about the wrinkle finish but the crcks can be filled and sanded smoth than paint. I painted mine with vinyl paint and i think it looks great. And alot of people cant beleave it was in a car that had sat with no top for 7 + years

didnt have to fill dash i found a good dash. but was going to be playing with my old one. most auto parts stores carry a dash repair kit but i think the 5 min epoxy $5.00 would work great even a little fiberglass. trim the hump out so your dash is even again than fill than sand, and paint. west marine carries " west systems" 2 parts and a filler so you can paint. it is what they use on the old wood boats. i have used it many time once even to add 4 inch.to a fender on my race bike. it is what i plan on using. but it is pricey that is why i told you about all the other products

here is ine painted
Image not a good picture to show the the black I will take a better one tomorrow hope some of this helps you

The wrinkle finish sounds like it might look good, if you don’t like it sand it off and do it again, in the end its you who you have to please

I found this website while thinking about restoring my dash... After looking at it I decided to go that way.. I like the results and I believe this process will delay or prevent more cracking.. Paint by itself will not help much. Once the vinyl is dry it becomes really fragile.. On the other side I wanted to keep a stock look but there was no way to keep all my dash and console pieces uniform I have an '83 and there is no covers to all te pieces..
