Driving lights in grill?

I am really interested in mounting driving lights in front of the grill on the 78 Spider. I have taken a close look at it and taken measurements. I really don't want to have to go to every web site or parts store in the world to find something that works if I can borrow from someone's experience. I am looking for a suggestion(s) on specific lights that have worked for any of you. I don't want to use any of the current look little lights. I am looking for something that looks a bit more "classic".

There is no bumper on the front of tha car.........

we've put 4" KC lights in the corner of the upper grille and 7" Hella lights in the lower grille

many people like this look i can't remeber who or where i've seen them but they are in here

I got a pair of old Bosch fog lights on eBay. I believe they are as old as the late 50ies actually, but I thought they suited the car.




They are 6" wide outer diameter and about 2,5" deep. I drilled two small holes per light through the lower part of the grille frame, and mounted them with two M4 bolts. The hood can still be opened, although I have to be a bit careful not to open it too forcefully. They came with 45 W bulbs for Bosch Ba20s sockets, but I managed to find 50 W halogen bulbs at http://www.vintagemotorspares.com/phdi/ ... ent&part=7. I think 6" Bosch Knicks, like these http://www.tradera.com/Extraljus-Bosch- ... _127619917, would work fine as well.

I did this years ag with a set of yellow lights. Hanging behind the grill from the support in front of the rad.
Swede, your headlight rings dont look stock. They look alot deeper?

Spiderrey, I think the rings are stock, it might just be the picture that makes the lamps sit deeper. The headlights have been changed at least twice, first when the car went from Germany to the UK, and then when I brought it over to Sweden.

I suppose on a newer Spider, you could use the bumper posts as mounts for fog lights. Hmmmm.

Good morning! I have a question. Where did you pull your power from for the driving lights? Did you go directly off the battery or find another source. I thought about going off the fuse box, but not sure which connector. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide. I'm sure there is a good source somewhere. Sounds rather elementary, but figured this forum is the best place to ask the question. Thanks for your help.

What I did was tap right off the output stud on the alternator.

I have two separate 5 pole relays, one for the low beams and one for the high beams/driving lights. I joined the cable from the left driving light and the left high beam together, and attached it to one of the two outgoing poles in the high beam relay (terminal # 87 on the relay). Then did the same on the right side and connected them to the other terminal # 87 on the same relay. The relay is fed through the alternator via terminal # 30 on the relay, with an in-line fuse.
