I've stripped off the smog stuff, changed intake manafold to single plane, carb to 32/36 DFEV, high compression pistons, intake cam, oversized valves, ceramic coated header, etc. Duel 40 IDFs would do a little better, but the difference between here and stock is amazing. The other nice thing about the 2L is there are a lot of parts still available that may not be available with some of the other engine options. I had a '73 spider with the 1592 engine, but that is a rare bird, it was only in spiders the end of '73 and a few '74s, right before the 1756 came out. I decided it was just too dificult to get parts and went with the '79. Oh, and having had both small attractive but useless bumpers and large less attractive but marginally usefull bumpers, I kind of like the fact that a light tap won't damage anything. You don't dare paralell park the small bumper cars.
