pretty cool manifold adapter

Post by manoa matt »

Saw this while browsing ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-2002-FIAT-SIDED ... 27b564d67b

Bolt a DCOE carb onto your existing manifold and you probably don't need to remove the brake booster either.
If it wasn't so much $$ I'd consider snatching one up.

you could get better performance from a progessive 2 barrel carb ! this is a waste of time and money .

Can the DCOE sit up like that?
1972 124 Spider (Don)
1971 124 Spider (Juan)
1986 Bertone X19 (Blue)
1978 124 Spider Lemons racer
1974 X19 SCCA racer (Paul)
2012 500 Prima Edizione #19 (Mini Rossa)
Ever changing count of parts cars....It's a disease!

"Can the DCOE sit up like that?"

As long as that adapter can orient the carb at an upward 5-7 deg from horizontal, then yes.

"you could get better performance from a progessive 2 barrel carb ! this is a waste of time and money ."

Daniel, can you elaborate on that statement? Plenty of weber books and literature list single DCOE and double DCOE carbs as performance upgrades for a multitude of 4 cylinder cars that originally came with 2 barrel progressive carbs. Everyone knows that dual DCOEs on a spider is the best perfomance carb to have.

I can see the limitations of the "S" curve created by the combination of the two manifolds, however look at carbs and manifolds for VW applications. Ever seen the manifold and piping needed to fit a 2 barrel progressive carb to a VW engine? Its a wonder the fuel/air charge even makes it to the head through about 3-4 feet of tubing with multiple "S" curves.

I sometimes wonder how those VW guys can install 48mm IDF and 51mm IDA webers on 1.8 liter engines when the manifolds neck down from 48/51mm at the carb base to around 30mm diameter at the head, yet try and install a 48mm IDf on a 1.8L Fiat with a good parallel port manifold and its too much carb.

Damn, I want that! The DCOE is the most "modern" and reliable performance carb that I know of, and the set of them on my Alfa Spider kicks ass. They're said to give slightly more horsepower than a set of IDFs. I also like that you can fully and easily strip the carb while leaving the carb body attached to the head.

Here's the sound of the DCOE set-up on my '77 Alfa Spider:

Since I'll be stealing the IDF set-up from my Spider, and putting on my Coupe's 1608, a set-up like the one in the ad is very appealing. Funny I've never seen one of these before. Those Aussies...

Sure i'll keep it short and simple, if you have 2 barrels opening at the same time lets say your running a 40 DCOE
with 32 mm Chokes, at lower RPM your going to have more carb then most Fiat TC Engines can handle and bog the
engine till the RPM can reach a level that would be acceptable to match the flow and volume needed to utillize and
the fuel and air available at the manifold for one . 32mm plus 32mm = 64mm and below 4 to 6 thousand RPM the
throttle responce would be very sensitive and touchy floor it below 2500 RPM and i'll bet you anything it will be a
total dog .

Next would be the Manifolds not really helping the flow and that config ! IMO Just go with 2 side drafts do it right !
i have and loved it .

fiatfactory wrote:" Inclining carburettors up to 5 degrees (not more) may prove useful", generally accepted inclination of 4 degrees max allows for some variations in engine position, mounting, and movement under torque.

And this is the reason why I used the RS Fiatorque manifold for my twin 40's. A Brilliant piece of equipment to compliment those webs.
