Removing lower console

Postby Martyn » Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:24 pm

I have a 1985.5 model and the heater is not functioning. The lever is jammed in the off position.

I need to access the cable and hot water valve to understand what is wrong. To do this I need to remove the lower console.

I know of the screw under the rear coin tray, but what else do I need to do to remove the console? What are the other fixings and do I have to remove the upper part of the console?

As usual very grateful for all help and guidance.

You have to remove center console before you remove the lower one. You have one screw behind the timer and 2 under the light. Then to remove the center console, you have 2 screws, one under the gauge cluster and one under the glove box. They are on the vertical surface. Also, one nut under the shifter console that you have to remove. The valve is located on passenger side center top. You can remove the cable from there and see if it work properly. Usually it's the valve not the cable.

Are the timer and light just push fit, so I just have to pull them out to get to the screws?

To remove the lower console I need to remove the nut under the shifter. How do I access it? Is the lower console just held in by this one nut?

Thanks for the help.

To remove the lower console I need to remove the nut under the shifter. How do I access it? Remove the plate around the shifter

Is the lower console just held in by this one nut? Screw under the cup for rear and nut in front

How can you remove the small black plastic screw covers on the console, there are two and I do not want to damage them.
