Lubricating Clutch Cable

Postby dimitridodys » Tue Sep 19, 2017 4:49 pm

Does the clutch cable require regular maintenance such as lubrication? If so, what lube is best and whats the best way to go about it?

Thanks

I have done quite a bit of reading on this topic as I have a brand new cable I installed in my 77 and wasn't sure on whether or not to lubricate before installing. What i have read suggests that most handbrake cables operate dry, as grease attracts dirt/road grime. And that WD-40 is not an acceptable lubricant as well. I did read that white lithium grease has been used by some, if the cable is older, but seems best to avoid if possible.

My opinion....If you are going to disconnect the cable from the clutch pedal to pour oil or whatever in/down it, just replace the thing.
My most worst, not look forward to job on these cars, that spring drives me batty.
