Freeing up exhaust parts!

Postby aevansgatech » Sun Aug 13, 2017 11:44 am

I'm in the process of replacing the center section (center muffler) and I've been fortunate so far that all the bolts have come out fairly easily. I have the rear muffler slipped off and all 4 bolts remover from the catalytic converter.

Is there anything else holding the center section flange to the back of the cat other than rust?? I thought I would be able to get it off easily once the bolts were out.. the torch is my next option..

Just want to make sure there's nothing I'm missing. It doesn't look like it's welded or anything

Sometimes using a small to medium hammer just gently tapping the sides of the flanges to jar things loose while pulling them apart is all it takes to get them moving however if that fails they may require a bigger hammer and chisel to force them apart. Start gentle and then move your way up.

Make sure it's a metric hammer.

Thanks guys, I did get it freed up with some heat from a propane torch and a hammer eventually..

I'd post a picture of the center section but photobucket appears to be messed up. The center section had rusted into 2 pieces!!
