intermittent fan

Postby KWL82 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 9:24 am

i've angered the gods on my 82.ran near perfect. no heat issues but....needed some maintenance and radiator had some corrosion. so replaced timing belt, water pump, new aluminum rad, new hoses and thermostat. thermo switch at bottom of rad broke when pulling connection apart so replaced also. now car heats up to 195 pretty quick. at stop light it hits 220, 230 and fan doesnt come on. take home and cool down. bleed system and top off every hose. while parked run and fan comes on at 190 ish, no problems. take for drive and again heats up to 220/230 and no fan.back home and steaming off radiator with still no fan. anything obvious?

Is there a difference in temperature between the top and bottom of the radiator - you should be able to tell by touching it, although an infrared thermometer would be better. If so, could indicate that your new thermostat is installed incorrectly.
