Inspection Bulb

Postby jlw35 » Thu Jun 29, 2017 12:20 pm

On my '75 Spider, there is a receptacle under the driver side dash for a bulb. The electrical diagrams call it an "inspection bulb".
Would anyone know the specific bulb type/number that I could find at the local auto parts store?

Thanks
Jeff

If I remember correctly, it isn't for just a bulb. It is the plug for a wired light. I've never seen one but it's what I heard of.

It looks as if it is a receptacle for a bulb, one that would just be pushed in. Similar to a turn signal bulb for instance on a modern car.

I believe it's the same as all the instrument cluster bulbs...If I'm thinking of the right one, it slides into a cylindrical connector with "wires" coming out. These are plastic fibers that transmit the light to the heater controls to light them up in the center console by the e brake...

PhillySpider,

I know which one you're speaking of and this is different. It's under the dash, driver side, close to the fuse box but slightly behind it.
I'm just going to experiment with some old bulbs when I get home and see what works.

Thanks anyway, not a big deal really.

It may have been an accessory but I have seen pictures of a light on a cord that plugged into that socket. I've never seen one in real life.

I think VAS is correct. There was actually a light on the end of a long cord and the other end plugs into that socket. I know I've seen a picture of one but I've never seen one in real life.

Yes - do a search it's a light, cable and connector that plugs into the socket under the dash, comes in a metal case. There are photos somewhere on the forum.
