If there was any work done on the injectors in the past, the plate holding the injector in place may be upside down.

I have nearly the same question

I took our the fuel rail and injectors to replace the short hoses and now that it's reinstalled, there is some play in the injector mounting plates. I didn't notice upon removal if they had that same amount of play, but I also don't want to overtighten the single nuts or strip the studs.

Is it normal to have some play in the injector mounting plates or should I reinstall?

No free play on mine. That suggests something not quite right.

Perhaps old rubber seals on injectors?

Any recommendations on the order of assembly?

I took the whole fuel rail/lines/injectors out of the vehicle to work on them. Anybody know if it's easier to seat the injectors first, then add the fuel rail or just try to get the whole thing in all at once? I had a hell of a time trying to fit the whole assembly in there.

I did mine as an assembly (fuel rail + injectors) and reinstalled it with new seals with a light bit of lithium grease on them. Mine went together pretty smoothly, but each injector took a little wiggling to seat it.

Thanks lglade,

It must be the seals preventing me from getting the assembly in all the way. I'll try again with a bit of grease and make sure the injectors are fully inserted.

I installed my rail and injectors fully assembled, and a quick trial placement showed which way to orient the clamps so I could get at them after installation. Making the 4 hose sections a TINY bit longer than needed puts a SMALL inconsequential arc in them, and keeps an inward seating force on the injectors, after the rail is socked down.

Quick update since I got it all back together. I was having no luck installing it together, so I opted to install the injector/hose combos individually. That gave me the space I needed especially for cylinders 3 and 4. I then found it easier to maneuver the fuel rail onto the four injector hoses without much hassle.

I let her run for the first time all winter yesterday and cycled the fan on and off a few times. I'm ecstatic there wasn't a single drop of fuel or hint of leaks.
