I have toyed with the idea of a drop-in box i could bolt to the back floor that was full height with locking doors. One side would be a cooler (wifey eats gluten free) for long trips.

It might actually be cooler in the cooler than sitting in the passenger seat in the Arizona sun. She doesnt drink beer so I wouldnt have to worry about the lack of refreshment at the end of the trip.

I am placing carpeting back there to start and see how it goes. It does save weight and space. I'll keep thinking on it, though. Thanks all.

Used Mark's kit. put 1/4" high density foam down and covered in black vinyl. I may add some package strips on top of the storage area. I'll click a couple more picks when done.

I think it came out alright. The storage under the box is nice. Increased space on parcel shelf. Only thing left is convertible boot sags without seat. I may need to put something under boot to fill it out when top is down.

Take the boot to your local Upholstrey shop and have them un-sew it and remove some of the mass and sew it back up now that there is no back seat. I'm sure it wouldn't cost much. I had something similar done on mine for the sides. They seemed to have to much material and it bugged me seeing the "excess" material.

I was thinking of that. I'd like to keep it interchangeable with the original seats.

You would actually have to add material to the boot to make it work. And I would just hook the exs leash to the back bumper and see if she can keep up.

the boot pattern from an 84-85 should solve the problems. Our fiberglass inserts are replicas of the oem parts from those years
