F1 doesn't run below 2000 rpm

Postby Ferdinand » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:59 am

Hi !
Springtime at last also here in Norway 8)
But my F1 won't run lower than 2000 rpm.
I got myself a refrbished ecu, trottle sensor, new temperatur sensors. And the engine starts and runs well except the idle.
It's like the electric power to the engine just cuts off just below 2000 rpm !
So l hope there's someone who has any good ideas/sugestions to help me fix it.

Check for vacuum leaks with propane or WD-40 or Carb Cleaner. I had a crack in my rubber intake plenum that caused the same symptoms that you described.

Thank you for quick response. I'll check it out .
But wouldn't the engine give some kind of noise before stopping ?
Mine just dies. As if ignition is tured off !

remove the idle speed adjustment screw on the throttle body and see if the o-ring is still on it. Also, check the wires to the mag pick-up in the distributor. These wires are prone to wear and corrosion and move when the vacuum advance changes.

Thank you again !
Checking for all possible faults.
Replaced the o-ring, checked the distributor wires and I'm preventing any air-leaks.
And found my "new" AAR not functioning either.
Can it be I shot-cutted it ?;
I accidentally mixed the two wires to the auxiliary air regulator. Can anybody please tell me which wire is to the front side of the car on the plug. The one stamped 34 or the 46 ?
Since I have borrowed a friends extra AAR I like to avoid to ruin it....
Looking forward get more advises

I am pretty sure that inside the AAR is a heating unit. probably just a piece of resistive wire or a bimetallic strip. It would not be polarity conscious so reversing the wires would not damage anything no prevent it from working.
Does the idle rpm decrease if you squeeze the hose with a pleir or clamp??

Is the AAR open when cold ? And closed when engine runs normal ?
Maybe I just need to clean the divice.

Yes its opened when cold and electrically closes after a short period of time. Something like a few minutes I believe.

Sorry I had originally posted "it electrically opens" after a short period of time. It closes when the engine no longer needs bypass air. I don't believe it completely closes the opening becomes smaller.

Great, thank you!
I'll test it in the freezer. Then I'll reasseble the engine and test it.
Looking forward to take my wife for a ride and get some air in her hear (even if she's not that happy it's blowing forward...)

Typical; from the freezer my old AAR opened but the spring inside seems boken. And the "new" one stayed closed (spring seems good).
Must admitt I get a bit frustrated.
Anyhow it's a beatiful sunny spring weather 8)
