79 engine wiring????

Postby kevireno » Wed Apr 04, 2018 1:14 pm

It has been YEARS since I removed my engine. 79 Carb engine. Manual trans.
Some of the tape (and notes are now Gone).
Question: the wiring to the alternator & starter? It appears that I have some extra wires down there????
There is Black wire with a "0" end on it. Very close is a Black, smaller gauge wire with a push on connector.. I am pretty sure that these go to my starter. However, there is also a larger gauge wire (black with yellow stripe) it is incased in a green color shield (CAVIS 10--) it have a "0" connector on each end. It is approx 10 inches long. I can't recall where this wire goes????
anyplace that I can fine wiring dgm for this?
Thanks

This was the closest I could find. Maybe someone has one specific.

I'll try to remember to get you some pics of my 1979's original wiring tomorrow after I get it back from the frame/bodyshop. Mirafiori also has a copy of my '79 shop manual,...that may be what the link is to.
I can get you a pic of the proper page from my manual at the same time.

Yeah,...as if I could get any pics of either the alt., or starter, wiring! That would require disassembly,...and everything is covered with rubber boots and (filthy) insulation.
I do have this e-diagram.

I've used it to trace my stuck power window relay, perhaps it will help you sort out those wires.
A multimeter will allow you to check continuity from end to end in a wire, or to check for a ground. A 9V battery and a bulb will do the same. Either method will allow you to trace those wires, if you doubt their function.
Best of luck with the sorting. Todd.
