Ignition - run position / remote

Hello-

I spent a good time browsing the forms.. and can’t find a solution.

I am hooking up a subwoofer under the glove box of my 78 - 124. I need a good remote signal to turn on when the ignition is in the run position (+). Can someone help ID the wire from the ignition harness.

Possibly the pink wire or light blue / black... with a fuse oh course?

Your head unit should have a remote turn on wire +

Sounds like fuse 9 or 10 is a good source too. 16 amps.

Sounds like fuse 9 or 10 is a good source too. 16 amps.


I think only one of the fuses 9 or 10 should be 16 amps. which ever one has the horn on it. The other fuse should be 8 amps. Also I believe fuses 9 &10 do not go through the ignition switch they have power as long as the battery is connected in the car. I think switched power is on fuses 1 & 2.

Oh I see! Got that mixed up.

Side note - would you happen to know which wire runs to the horn (is it yellow with black dots) and is it positive (assume so, but who knows?)

I don’t have a live battery at the moment

would you happen to know which wire runs to the horn (is it yellow with black dots) and is it positive (assume so, but who knows?)


The wire diagram shows a solid yellow wire supplies power to the horns. This wire comes from the horn relay. The steering wheel horn button supplies a ground to engage the relay. When the relay is engaged power is supplied to the horns. In other words the horn power wire only has power on it when t he horn relay is activated.
You are looking for a wire that has power only in the "start and run" positions of the ignition switch. I thik you correctly mentioned earlier it could be the Pink wire or the blue/black wire coming off the ignition switch. If you have an original Sipea ignition switch there is often a spare "INT" terminal on the switch you could connect a new wire to. The "INT" terminal is a "hot in start and run" terminal.

I was looking to wire my new horn - after cutting a completely mess out of my engine bay.. and he second question was the run wire.

Thanks a bunch! It’s hard to do without a running battery!
