Lights

Postby adam17 » Thu Nov 02, 2017 11:20 pm

My light do work. But when I turn on the lights I really have to toggle with the light switch to get it to stay on. Almost turning it on off until I catch it right and it stays on and the interior dash light stays on th same time. Do I have to take dash off to troubleshoot?

Sounds like the contacts inside the switch are starting to give you some trouble. You can remove the switch from the dash by unscrewing the bezel in front and reaching up behind the dash, find the wires going to the switch, then gently pull the switch out from the back. Before removing it, I like to tie a long enough piece of string to the toggle in front so you can use it as a "pull string" for when you fit the new switch or repair the old one. It will make fitting the switch back in a lot easier.

Before you remove the switch you could try spraying some contact cleaner into the switch from the center of the round area where the "bat" is mounted. There is enough space for tt to reach the contacts inside. Use a spray can with the long straw tube and hold a paper towel over the switch and around the straw when you spray. Then work the bat a number of times and see what happens.
