no, I won't (i understand my words were understandable that way).
I will extend the grey/red and blue wires from the high/low switch (more precisely from connector 33) to the relay socket (through the firewall).
And go back to the fuse box after the relay (through the firewall again).

I think I will use those built in fuse relays

It took me some time to find what was fused .(although it was designed on the top of the case). It is the circuit between spades 30 and 87.

My only regret is that this relay change is really noticeable. Not vintage look at all.

Lot of extra wiring just to use the existing fuses, the holders of which are an inferior design. Better to put it all out in the engine compartment and limit the wire length tremendously, imho.

Has anyone used Auto Ricambi's ignition relay kit? (3-relays) Isn't that supposed to alleviate headlight issues as well as ignition?

I purchased it but haven't installed it yet.

I don't know this kit.
I don't see it on the site.

there was some previous discussion about VW doing a "full car" relay pack. I designed a way to relay everything and ended up using 3 relays.

here is my idea of a 3 relay system for all the electrical. Thanks to Brad for the basic schematic.

This is my interpretation of the black & white diagram that came with the relays, which was for an after market ignition. I haven't installed it yet. I've confirmed it with Csaba, but any feedback would be appreciated since I'm not an expert in electronics :)

@azruss
nice investigation work !
I will try to look at the job using your ideas.
how can I view the diagram ?
when clicking, it links to the hosting site main page, and nothing else.
I saved the picture, but then I can not amplify it to read the words (and there are some I can't read).

when looking closely, here are my questions:
you do not relay the fan : hot circuit all the time, with the thermo switch being the relay ?
no horn relay ? maybe not a big deal (maybe modern horns require only a few amps to operate ?)
what's the use of the ignition relay (if you do not use the dual points sets?)
putting the lighting relay where you do, ie upstream the lighting switch, you protect the ignition switch but not the lighting switch. It might be interesting to put it downstream the switch.

I don't want to "kill your work", I am just trying to understand some of your choices to share them (or not).

@giuliot60

thanks for the drawing.
I guess this is made to protect the ignition switch.
I am not expert enough to understand it.
not your fault, not csaba's, just my little experience on relays.
for example, I do not understand the "wiring" of spades 86 and 30 together.
it's not the first time I see it, but it's simply too clever for me.
I only understand the basics ; ground, power in, power out, signal in.
I still have to work on this, to reduce the number of items (potential trouble sources...).

jean,
I threw the relay mods together after reading about the VW thing. I just wanted to get it down on paper. have not looked at my design critically and refined it. looks like you have, so let me know what mods you think should be made. I will PM you the drawing so you can read it.

Jean,
I thought i had your e-mail but cant find it. Send me your e-mail so i can send the schematic without having to shrink it.

All you had to do was ask. :)

Also wanted to report that the relays have been installed for a few years now and I haven't had any ignition issues. Lights are better, but not as good as I would like them. I may go LED. I'd like to convert all the lights to LED, but I have other thing I'd rather spend my money on.

Autoricambi now has a wired kit. https://autoricambi.us/products/ignitio ... -relay-kit.

It looks like you don't have to cut your wires any longer. Cutting the wires was something I didn't want to do, but I eventually took the plunge.
