Getting started on getting it started

Postby specialk4430 » Sat Jan 13, 2018 5:54 pm

My 78 has been sitting idle for a couple years. Besides the normal fresh fluids/plugs/turn over by hand once or twice, I would like to pre lube the engine before I start it. How do you do this on a fiat? It's really easy on a small block chevy...

I should elaborate.. What I'm talking about is spinning the oil pump with a drill to pre oil everything. How is this done on the 1800 engine? Thanks.

In AR's tech section there is a "new engine start-up procedure"
give it a look.

You can always pull the ignition wire off the coil and crank the engine until you see pressure.

On an FI engine, pull the AFM connector, the fuel pump wont run, and therefore while it is cranking, the cylinders aren't washed in unburned gasoline, contaminating the oil, and the exhaust system won't fill with gasoline fumes as well, helping avoid a nasty backfire later.
