Short dip stick question

Postby architect » Sun Nov 05, 2017 10:04 am

Hello,

I would like to freshen up under the hood.. And replace my oil dipstick.

I am a little backward on which one to get for my 78. There appears to be a short one (just the stick with gasket seal at block?) and a long one (with tube and mounting bracket to intake).

I am about to install Allison’s ignition on the block... will this stick be appropriate? I think this is the short version? Or am I backwards on this.

My original stick is the long one with the tube - with stock ignition. I don't know why you'd want to change that.

I took my long one and cut it off. The seal at the top works for the bottom hole as well. I pulled the long tube and the dip stick and measured how much of the dip stick was sticking out of the tube and where the high/low marks were. I used a punch to mark the new high low marks. I also got the computronix with the "dizzy" for the block mount. I used the block mount cap and moved it to the head. Very happy with the results.

For anyone interested.. this stick works with a 78. Just pull the existing dipstick tube and replace. It’s that simple, same reading.

A must for anyone going the Distributor-less block mount.

Cheers
