Timing marks missing on my 81 Spider FI

Postby Betis » Fri Oct 27, 2017 10:43 pm

I was trying to set the timing on my car and realized that the markings on the engine block were missing. I know that the FI cars had the markings bolted to the block. I was getting ready to put them back on, and I can not. The spacing betewwen bolts it is too big. I know that previous owner replaced the engine block with a new one from Joe's Fiat a while back. And I also have a 1800 head on it. So what coulld have happened? The new block was not a 2.0 block? Any ideas?
I know it is impossible to know but I would like to hear your thoughts?
My car right now is an Abarth clone. The previous owner polished and ported the head. It also has an Aluminum lightened flywheel. It has around 135 to 140 hp.
So what do you guys think is the most likely scenario? Right now there is a wire instead of the markings.

Find TDC (piston 1 up). Make a plate and mark the place. Using degree wheel, you will be able to mark 5-10-15 degrees mark. Or use a timing light with a dial, set it to 10 degrees and the line will be on TDC mark.

There should be a there a number stamped on the driver's side of the block on a flat area just above the engine mount. Post that number and we can tell you what you have.

Stamp says 4356114 and 132 DB.2A.0. What does it mean?

Brad Artigue's book has a summary of block numbers, serial numbers, etc. by model and year I think. That is a good resource.

Also, I would bet that a thorough internet search might bring up the base data.

I searched and I could only come u with possible answers, nothing concrete. It could be from a 132 or a 131 Volumex. But nothing confirmed.
