dry-fitting exhaust on 79 spider 2000?

Postby RLphys » Thu Jul 13, 2017 10:10 pm

I recently purchased a '79 spider with a 5-speed and carbureted engine. I have an exhaust leak between the manifold and the down pipe. I have read that the exhaust systems on Fiat 2000's are dry-fitting, but everywhere I have have read that, there has been some reference to fuel injection. So, are the exhaust systems on a carb-model 79 Fiat 2000 dry fitting like the FI models or do they use the gaskets (and headers, down pipes, etc) of the earlier pre-FI models?

I ended up pulling it apart and there were (pieces of) a gasket. Slapped on a new gasket and all is well. It appears that my '79 has the same 4-2-1 exhaust as the earlier 70's spiders. I suspect that the exhaust configuration was changed when the cars switched to fuel injection.

Some non California 2000s that year were fitted with the older 4-2-1 exhaust, the CA cars were fitted with the 4-1 crap to meet CARB standards.
