Just in case you are curious Vapor 2 way valve

Postby DRUMMOND » Wed Jun 28, 2017 11:03 pm

Here is why you can never really clean this valve out when it gets blocked. For those who have not looked at this on their car, may be time to do so??

Wow, what a mess! Were you able to get the valve functioning again? And how did you split the two halves?

Yep! Mine was clogged just about that bad as well. I bet that this is an extremely common problem. They should all be replaced if age is original or unknown.

mine was equally as bad - went straight to the trash. They're plenty of aftermarket solutions out there

I cut it in half with a small hacksaw. Just curious to see if I had cleaned it out enough to reuse it. I could also blow through, it but it did not sit right with me that I had got it all out. Two weeks soaking in fresh gas did not really do anything.
I replaced it with a clear gas filter so I can keep an eye on it in the future.

I am thinking that stuff came from the charcoal filter in the canister? Looked like fine charcoal wax

And i thought it was all the puke created from the bits of our fuel system resulting from the use of ethanol fuel

Probably low temperature oxidized Hydrocarbons mixed with atmospheric dust?

Mine was just as bad.

I also replaced it with a clear fuel filter so I could keep an eye on it.

It needs the pressure resistance both ways to operate correctly. A fuel filter won't do that correctly.

Its just an orifice pressure vent valve, balanced by the inlet-chamber-outlet. Fuel filter will do the same, but will catch the crud. if you use a clear one then you can see when its blocked.

Then why did they design in a significant pressure point where it releases in either direction? If that were the case, then there is no need for anything in the line there at all.

:) If you look closely at the white plastic disc you will see there is 5 openings, this is a clear indication that it is a restricting device. The main body has a larger chamber that regulates the opposing pressures to maintain balance, ie when the tank is near full and has the most pressure going into the charcoal canister. Then when the engine is sucking vacuum it regulates it going the opposite direction along with the orifice on top of the charcoal canister. the fiber collar attached to the bell chamber acts as a shock absorber to the action of the spring.
:)

The filter element in the chamber of the clear fuel filter will do the same restrictions.
Both will reclog at some point, one you can see one you cannot.

Phew!
This is just my assumption
