Vapor canister full of gas

Postby alaindelval » Tue Mar 28, 2017 3:01 am

Hello from Belgium!
Yesterday I noticed my vapor canister (Spider 2000 FI) was full of gas and overflowing trough the vent.
From where is it coming - gas tank or manifold ? And why? Liquid/vapor separator broken?
Thank you for your feedback.

There should only be vapors going through the canister, in both directions. Possibly the liquid/vapor separator is broken as you surmise, and there has been some siphoning from the tank? Is it properly connected as per the diagram?

Thank you Rroller123! It's seems to be connected as per the diagram but where is located the two-way valve?
And also, is it possible to remove this vapor line as the vapor-liquid seperator is impossible to find in Belgium (may be can I put another type but which one?)

Alain
Treat gasoline soaked active carbon with great care. It could ignite spontaneously if you drain out the gas and then try to recommission the vent system .I had the same problem with a Rover V8 where I could dismantle and empty the canister. You can refill it with charcoal from a pet store selling carbon filters for fish tanks.
If your inspection system allows the ideal solution is to junk the whole vent system !!

Thank you Maxdog. Problem just solved. I have done some work in the engine bay and disconnect the fuel pressure regulator line and also the vapor canister line and when doing the remount, I have invert the two I discover that after trying to drain the gas from the vapor line and soaring more than a liter of gas; I was just draining the fuel tank  (Stupid I am...). But something misled me, the fuel pressure regulator line is coming out the firewall form the left side near the clutch cable and the canister vapor line is coming out from the center of the firewall. I tought it was the opposite??
How do I do to replace the charcoal (seems to be impossible to open the canister ?)

You have to cut the canister in half, fill it with C from the fish store, glue it back together. IMHO that is nuts. MUCH better to just buy a new one from the great vendors who support this site.

The 2-way valve is under the car, just above the rear axle, driver's side.
