New guy confused?!?!? Which engine do I have?

Postby Jrscobra » Fri Mar 10, 2017 12:34 am

I have a manual for my 72 Spider. The manual shows an appendix for a 1400 engine , but I don't know which I have. The breather looks like the 1400 engine. Everything I see in print says it's the 1608 cc motor. It has a single carb. I'm new. Don't kill me. Any input?

the engine number is stamped on the left side of the block below the fuel pump. It should be a 1608 but engine swaps on these cars are common

On the 1608 the engine type and number should be stamped on the machined surface above the oil filter. If it starts with 124... it's a 1438cc. If it starts with 125... then it's a 1608cc.
Also 1438 had block mounted distributor and 1608 had exhaust cam mounted distributor.

So it is the 1608. Thanks for the help.

Finally got out ere today and started a few things. I'm thinking a lot of pics are in order first. Taking the fuel hose off the fuel tank was a booger. Those clamps are , or were, hard to remove. Maybe it's just that I'm left handed. Any way...the excitement builds!!
