Donations to this site

Postby wetminkey » Thu Mar 15, 2018 12:28 am

So, I just did my part and threw a couple of dollars at the site owner so that this website can remain the information source that it has been for so long! This site has been invaluable to me for a number of years, even before I registered and began posting. It was time for me to contribute a tiny bit of what I've gained from the site.
I've had to right-click to make links open in new pages, and you may be having the same trouble. The "Donate" button works the same way!
Evan mentioned that donations are down, and he wondered if troubles with the website might be why,...
Thanks for listening. I hope you value this site as much as I do.
Happy Motoring!

Tx for the reminder Todd
Done through the donation box & paypal...painless.
I can't even start to put a value on all the knowledge that resides in this forum.
Love my Spider and my Fiat friends.
Evan, great job.

Thanks to you both, and to the other 4 folks that have pitched in so far this year. Obviously there is some kind of browser-oriented issue with the PayPal button that I have in the main nav bar. Donations have been way below the norm so far this year and I'm pretty sure that's why because normally this entire community is very supportive. Todd informed me that if you "right" click on the donate button it works fine. I am going to spend some time trouble shooting the button issue this weekend. Donations are critical for me to keep this site going, so in the interim please consider donating and be assured that your transaction is completey secure and safe through PayPal. It's just the hyperlink code I used within the forum that behaves different depending on the browser and version. I'll fix it.

Thanks so much everyone! And dangit, come on Spring! Geez, we just had snow this week in Virginia. I'm over winter!

I've been traveling and forgot. Donation made. This site keeps my car on the road (OK it keeps the car on the road part of the time - I keep it off the road the rest of the time).

Seven people have donated this year, with hundreds active :!: :?: That's embarrassing.

Any of you remember what it was like to restore or maintain a vintage car before forums like this one?

It costs $100 to have a mechanic look at a car. C'mon people now, smile on your brother ....

Forum shows that there are 2251 members. If everyone of us were to donate just $1.00 ($1.26 Cdn)...

Thanks for the push and help y'all. Dan nailed it on the head - it's not a matter of amount so much as it is participation. If everyone that has gained value from this site pitched in with whatever they are comfortable with, we'd be fine. Since you all have been cheering folks on and posting about it, I have started to receive some help. I sure do appreciate it.

On another note, and off-topic a little bit, you all may have noticed that our registered user count went from well over 14,000 down to, as of right now, 2,251. Here's why: I had not "pruned" the member list since about 2010. It took me two weeks to do it but I now have it down to active members. Active being those that have signed in over the past twelve months. Much more meaningful and accurate number.

Right now I'm setting up a mirror site to try and do a major software upgrade. I do this on a mirror site just in case that if something were to go wrong, the live site won't suffer from it. I'll keep you all posted on that. Meanwhile, donate if you can and a HUGE thank you to those of you that have!

Thanks,
Evan

Where else can you admire the kind of work done by Drummond on his restoration, or follow the trials and tribulations of Wetminkey and his body shop woes, never mind learn about tire sizes, timing issues, mysterious electrical gremlins and their solutions AND find hard to get parts?

Even I, one of the most frugal people on the planet, have donated to this site, and my dollar is only worth $0.75 compared with all you in the US.

Who knows, maybe if enough of us pitch in Evan might even upgrade the software to enable files to be stored for reference......(hey I can dream)

so step right up, put your money on the line, this forum is better entertainment and a whole lot cheaper than movies.

Thank You! I really appreciate you all helping out. I've been doing a lot behind the scenes (see my post in the web site feedback section). Going through some challenges trying to upgrade everything but I'll get it done. I'm just being extra careful. The work turns from being work to being a pleasure knowing that you all are getting value from the site and are willing to pitch in.

Thanks again,
Evan

Hey folks -
As a gesture of recognition and appreciation, I have created a special "rank" and badge for those of you that have contributed to our effort here through donations. I hope you'll wear it with pride knowing you've helped out, but if you don't want the badge for some reason, that's fine, just let me know and I can remove it. Didn't want to force it on anyone but I think all of you that have pitched in deserve a little recognition on the board!

Also - important, if you have donated and you don't have the badge now, that means I couldn't associate your e-mail with a user. You probably used a different email for the forum. If this is the case, please PM me and I'll fix you up. I don't want to leave anyone out that's pitched in.

Thanks again,
Evan
