California window decal

What is the large white square decal I see on CA car windows? There's a small black square in the center.

It listed the emissions standards. I had to put the white piece of paper behind it so it could be read. It is clear with green lettering and borders.

Rey had it; it's Uber. White circle, not square. Strange looking, regardless. Maryland doesn't allow decals that obstruct forward or rearward vision. You'll still see plenty of college and vacation stickers on vehicles, but mostly on the rear window, and low enough not to block bikers (or Spiders) in the mirror.

We couldn't display decals on Uber cars in Montreal. Currently the taxi industry is in war with Uber for intruding onto their territory so Uber is being as inconspicuous as possible. Nevertheless the app displays the vehicle's description and location so the Montreal Taxi Bureau recruits their "minions" to wait at the passenger's pick up point. Once the driver is stopped to pick up the passenger, the car is blocked and the Taxi Bureau has the authority to seize and tow the vehicle which will be impounded for 30 days. And it's all legal. In the early days a few taxi-cabs would surround the Uber car and smash eggs and whip flour all over the car. Btw, Uber pays all towing and impound charges as well as the rental car for the driver for the next 30 days. I know a guy who got his car and the rental car seized in the same week.
