Rebuild Concerns - 77' 1800

Postby Teletom » Sun May 07, 2017 5:13 pm

He everyone, finishing up my rebuild on my 77' 1800, a couple concern and question if you have the time to answer.

I had the bottom end rebuilt by a shop to mitigate any risks of me putting it together on my first run. First concern is they did not use the gasket from the kit I gave them they used the seals but not the paper gasket for the front of the block and the rear. They seemed to have used a grey rubbery liquid gasket. I cant see much at all of it squeezing out anywhere either, will this hold oil without the paper gaskets? Can I remove these pieces without ruining the rear and main seals and put in the paper gaskets? I dont want this thing leaking because of that liquid gasket when I put it all together.

To remove the crank seal holders you also have to loosen the oil pan. If it was me I'd use the paper gaskets. Their ends need to be cut flush with the bottom of the block.
