Refresh My Old Memory

Postby davery » Tue Aug 23, 2016 8:12 pm

When I took the center console out many moons ago it seems I didn't write down how the shift boot is held in place. Does the shift boot retaining ring fit inside the boot? If so, that would mean the "wood" edge around the shift opening shows? Thanks.

Yes the ring goes inside the boot. But the ring is an outward facing C-channel, so the wood section sits inside the mouth of the C when the boot is installed. So you can't actually see vertical edge of the wood.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

Here is the old IAP video covering the replacement of the center console and about half way through includes the replacement of the shift boot:

Anyone happen to have a to-scale template for the console wood insert ('70) ?
